Instead of entertaining at the regular Hallowe’en party, this year was a little different for me as I was booked by Paul and Melanie to entertain the guests at their wedding at Berkeley Castle.
Berkeley Castle is near to Gloucester, and very far from Thornbury Castle (literally just a few miles down the road) where I also entertained at a wedding a couple of weeks ago.
Oddly, though not common, it’s the second wedding I’ve performed at on Hallowe’en, and I guess it at least makes sure no one forgets the date of the anniversary as the years pass.
Berkeley Castle is a terrific venue and well worth visiting in it’s own right. In fact, the week leading up to the wedding was half term, so Berkeley Castle had been decorated to reflect this; and it was done to a really high standard and definitely created a very spooky atmosphere. Lucky for me I was performing in the afternoon and well out the way before darkness enshrouded the medieval castle walls…
I didn’t get to see too much of Paul and Melanie during the afternoon. The weather wasn’t to great so whist that meant I had a captive audience to keep entertained, the bride and groom themselves were off doing their photographs.
Though with the poor weather it was good that I was there as it meant the guests could be entertained without feeling as so they were being kept inside.
Fortunately I did manage to do a few quick tricks for the bride and groom before they had their wedding breakfast. I also managed to take a couple of snaps on my phone which hopefully captures the atmosphere of a very unique wedding.
The following day Paul and Melanie sent me the following email:
Just want to say a massive thank you for performing at our wedding yesterday. Everyone was truly amazed by your magic, people were still talking about you the next day!
Thanks for helping make our day even more special.
