I’m a full-time professional close-up magician, sleight-of-hand artist and mindreader. The Start the Evening with Sleight-of-Hand
Your evening can start with demonstrations of sleight-of-hand magic as your guests arrive. This works well because it not only relaxes everyone as they settle in, but is useful to start getting some interaction – especially useful when guests who may not know each other are suddenly forced to socialise over a glass of bubbly and a canape. Another advantage is it not only means that the guests get to know who I am (and realise I’m not a regular guest!), but it also means I get to know them – meaning that I can ‘get a read’ on each person there, knowing what effects in my repertoire will work well for them to get the maximum impact, and create the best memories that will last for years to come.
Around the Table Close-Up Magic
As your guests are called to take their seats around the dinner table I continue with close-up magic and mindreading. By now they know I am, and appreciate my skills. With this increased level of rapport I perform using borrowed objects, and start delving into the inner depths of their minds. As I circulate around the table I use different people to help, ensuring throughout the evening that all your guests have the opportunity of being involved – and that the performances entertain those around, but also doesn’t dominate so that guests can still have their own conversations between themselves.
Climaxing the Night with an After-Dinner Show
Changing the dynamics Robert can round off the evening’s entertainment with a mindreading after-dinner show. This can be whilst the guests are still sat at the dinner table relaxing with teas and coffees, or adjourning to another room for a drink. Actually, even performing for the whole group between the main course and dessert works very well as it makes the whole dining experience feel more relaxed and less rushed – though I always check with the chef first that they don’t have soufflés in the oven which require to the minute timing to be served!
Typically this lasts around 20/30 minutes and features fun demonstrations of mindreading and mentalism. By now everyone knows Robert, and Robert knows everyone, so dipping into the guests minds, reading their body language and predicting their psychology brings things to a natural conclusion.
And when your guests have all had their own experiences you know they won’t just be talking about it at the time, but they’ll be talking about it again and again. And talking about it for the right reasons!

- Your booking is secure. I will send you a formal contract confirming all the arrangements. You know I’ll arrive at the right venue, on the right day, and be ready to start at the right time. (And trust me, I’ve heard plenty of stories to the contrary!)
- I trade as a Limited Company (RJB Events Ltd). As boring as it sounds, it means I issues invoices, have Public Liability Insurance, use a business bank account and can accept credit card payments. These are things you don’t think about at the time, but all add to the knowledge that you’re booking a trusted professional.
- And in a ‘worst case’ scenario and I am unable to make it due to an emergency my priority will be to arrange a fellow professional magician to cover. This means that at least your guests are entertained. (This has only happened twice in eighteen years due to emergencies – and I hope will never happen again).
Customisable Packages For All Dinner Parties
I offer four main packages. The Ultimate Dinner Party is the most comprehensive and covers all aspects. Admittedly it is the most expensive, but in the grand scheme of organising your event it really does cover everything. I can also be booked just for the after-dinner show and close-up magic, though too be honest you may afterwards regret not investing in having me for the whole evening.
Please note that the timings shown are for illustration only based on my personal experience. Of course all dinner parties are different and we’ll discuss your actual requirements when confirming the arrangements – plus I try to allow for some flexibility on the day.
