Professional entertainment for your wedding
On a very (very!) windy day in December I entertained the guests at the wedding of Abbie and Jordan at their fantastic wedding held at Clearwell Castle.
I have performed close-up magic and mindreading at weddings held at Clearwell Castle a number of times over the years, and this was the second wedding I’ve performed here over the festive season – and the Christmas tree is a lovely addition to the hall.
Clearwell Castle is nestled in the Forest of Dean, in the west part of Gloucestershire. Usually when I drive to Clearwell Castle (and other venues in the Coleford area) I usually pop along the M4, over the the Severn Bridge into Wales and loop back up into Gloucestershire. It seems counterintuitive – until you see the route on the map. However, this particular weekend the UK was being battered by gale-force winds so the Severn Bridge was closed and I was forced to take the “scenic route”. I can confirm that the trees in the Forest of Dean lost a few branches that weekend – many of them ending up in road I was trying to drive along.
Fortunately I left additional travel time to arrived at Clearwell Castle with time to sort my tricks before the Abbie, Jordan, and all their guests came out of the ceremony.
With the cold wind, the wedding photographer – James Clarke, from Just James Media – ensured the guests were whipped outside for the group shot with speed. In fact, in 18 years of performing at weddings I don’t think I’ve ever seen the whole wedding party shepherded outside, lined up for the photos, and be back indoors so quickly. And yet James still managed to get some great shots despite the howling gusts.
Wedding Reception Magician
Once the guests where back indoors I started mingling with them performing close-up magic. Clearwell Castle has areas that wedding guests can relax in during the afternoon reception – though none were sitting out on the patio section today. As a professional magician I could approach different groups and mingle with the guests – revisiting them to build on what they’ve seen and create an experience throughout the afternoon.
This gave James plenty of time to take the various group shots of the bride and groom, then taking more with just Abbie and Jordan; knowing they were relaxed in the knowledge their guests were being kept entertained. During all of this James managed to capture some lovely shots of me performing for the guests, and once the guests were called through to the wedding breakfast I could perform for Abbie and Jordan.
Even with the weather forcing some guests (and even wedding suppliers!) to be absent it was a lovely wedding day. I also love performing at Clearwell Castle, whatever the weather holds, and hope that I can get back there again soon for more weddings.

We booked Robert for some entertainment at our winter wedding during canapés. After searching for hours and reading reviews we knew Robert would be our man. Rob is a great entertainer who was mingling with all of the guests and tailors his entertainment to suit. He performs loads of different tricks, magic and I suppose what you would call mind reading. I have absolutely no ideal how he pulls of some of his tricks (I’ve scoured the Internet trying to find out how he does it but couldn’t find an answer). I don’t want to dive into to much detail and ruin it so il leave that there. Really nice bloke, guests all liked him as he just walks round dropping in with different guests and groups and everyone looked engrossed in what he was doing. Drove up in an awful storm as well when others didn’t take to the roads. Big thanks mate!
